About us

Garnet Hill is one of a few classic Adirondack lodges that remain today. Located on a gentle hill overlooking a beautiful pristine lake, with miles of private ski and hiking trails and surrounded by forever wild protected state land, the lodge is the focal point of a special place that offers guests and visitors options for activity as well as rest and relaxation.

Nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, overlooking pristine Thirteenth Lake, our storied inn offers an historic Adirondack setting for individuals, couples, and families to escape from the hectic pace of everyday life and surround themselves with the serenity of nature. Our guests can choose to hike, swim, paddle, bike… or just settle into an Adirondack chair on front lawn and drink in the views with a good book.

Over the years, Garnet Hill has become nationally known for the excellence of its cross country skiing, both trails and programs. It is widely acknowledged to be one of the very best nordic ski centers in the country. Winter opens up 50 km of beautifully groomed cross-country ski trails, countless miles of backcountry and snowshoe trails and it’s only 15 minutes to downhill skiing at Gore Mountain.

The Lodge or Log House as it is known, is reminiscent of an Adirondack Great Camp. The original structure — built in 1936 by Mr. Frank Hooper — offers a casual, friendly atmosphere with bed and breakfast guest service. Our location provides excellent access to many activities, indoor and out, that provide a unique opportunity for couples and families to reconnect. Our full service restaurant is open to the public and nourishes all our guests with freshly prepared, hearty country cuisine.

The Log House provides nicely appointed guest rooms with private baths and comfortable accommodations for 2-5 people with daily housekeeping.

A separate family room with ping pong, a big screen TV, billiards, and board games makes it the perfect place to relax after an active day outdoors. The Lodge has quiet sitting areas for individuals and couples as well as a family friendly atmosphere for parents who want to enjoy a special experience with their children. Wi-Fi is available throughout the main lodge building.

Two additional lodging options on the property — The Tea House and The Birches — are a bit more modern, offering spacious rooms ideal for families of 4-6, all with private baths and televisions in the room. Our pet friendly lodging is located in these two buildings for privacy and convenience.

In its picturesque Adirondack setting, Garnet Hill provides guests the opportunity to restore the balance in their lives. Our rustic environment invites you to step back to more tranquil times. To support this, there are no phones or televisions in the Log House rooms. Staff respectfully receives and delivers messages and a public phone is available for essential calls.

Guests can take full advantage of this and bask in the seclusion of Garnet Hill’s mountain environment or drive to nearby towns of North Creek, Lake George or Lake Placid to enjoy the many activities those areas have to offer.

“Whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter, once you’ve experienced Garnet Hill, you will want to make it your family tradition.”

Garnet Hill is a natural paradise for those seeking a break from the hectic rush of everyday life. In spring, summer or fall, 70 miles of marked and mapped trails provide gentle walks for the nature enthusiast, while the rugged mountain scenery presents the experienced hiker with more vigorous routes and climbs. Snowy, Peaked, Crane, Blue and Chimney Mountains are all nearby. Fine swimming is offered in the clear waters of Thirteenth Lake, while its beautiful beach will reward those who prefer to just laze in the sun. Boating, canoeing and fishing can also be enjoyed, with rental canoes and kayaks available. Garnet Hill also maintains two tennis courts near the ski/bike shop. Garnet Hill’s extensive ski trail network is transformed into a mountain bike trail system in summer and fall. We developed an impressive interconnecting network of single-track bike trails — the rides are endless!
